Few would have imagined a decade ago that an American manufacturer (Ford) will launch a three-cylinder engine of 1.0 liters. Furthermore, a three-cylinder turbocharged engine, designed by a manufacturer in the country that the expression "There's no replacement for displacement" is the last word.
Yet, three-cylinder Ecoboost engine of 1.0 liters is one of the most anticipated engines. It is the smallest and most efficient engine Ford so far and will not "stop" only the Focus, but will expand the B-Max, C-Max and Mondeo even.
Why has reached such a "bad thing"? Simple. Because most of the pollution fees are calculated based on carbon dioxide emissions and engine capacity. Diesels are efficient, but are larger, and the engines 'simple' gasoline are not as effective as manufacturers would like.
However, it is still hard to think of a compact almost 1.5 tons that can be equipped with 1.0 liter engine, cylinder capacity usually seen in class mini models, or even less.

Even Roger Ratley, gasoline powertrain development manager said the new Ecoboost engine block can fit smoothly on A4 paper. Furthermore, the engine is only 97 kg although not made of iron and aluminum, while the 1.6 liter petrol engine weighs 130 kg.
The driver can say that the Ford engine is very refined. For example, highway, 120 km / h can be heard much louder wind noise than the Ford engine.
